PNP creates drug war database

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is now operationalizing a database for its campaign against illegal drugs in a move to have accurate information system that is readily accessible for its police units across the country.

Police Maj. Gen. Valeriano De Leon, PNP director for Operations, said they are now conducting training programs to ensure that the PNP Drug-Related Data Integration and Generation System (DRDIGS) will be operational in the soonest time.

"It is essential for us to have operational data in order to have an accurate picture of the situation. Numbers and figures help us see an honest evaluation of our progress," said De Leon.

"In addition, I would like to emphasize that our strategy and field operations should be based on intelligence -driven data. "There is no room for speculation when real lives are at stake," he added.

The PNP DRDIGS will serves as a digital library of all the data, intelligence reports, and other pertinent information pertaining to the PNP's nationwide campaign against illegal drugs.

He emphasized the need for the PNP to come up with a database on illegal drugs, saying the storage of PNP operational data is one of the most significant issues and gaps identified during periodic reviews of the aggressive anti-drug campaign.

He noted that the PNP DRDIGS will serve as a guide for conducting anti-illegal drug operations effectively and efficiently.

"The collection and storage of our operational data is crucial to the success of our future strategies," he said.

Among those tapped to operationalize the database are experts from the Directorate for Intelligence (DI), the Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR), ITMS (Information and Technology Management System), the Forensic Group (FG), and the Explosive and Ordnance Division/K9.

"Once the PNP DRDIGS is fully operational, the PNP will be able to effectively manage operational accomplishments by storing, controlling, and processing data, as well as providing quick, efficient, real-time reports and statistics," said De Leon.

De Leon vowed to sustain the government's gains against illegal drug operations in the country, stating that it contributed significantly to the country's peace and order over the past five years, as evidenced by the significant decrease in crime volume.

He stated that the positive effects of the war on drugs were President Duterte's legacy, which would be carried on by the incoming administration.

"As the Director for Operations, I can assure you that the PNP's efforts to combat and eliminate the proliferation of illegal drugs in the country will continue under the direction of our newly elected president," said De Leon.

"We will maintain our substantial progress in becoming a drug-free nation and continuously enhance our anti-illegal drug strategy," he added.
