Healing priest goes to Lingayen
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines — Thousands of catholic devotees gathered at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center here Tuesday to receive the blessing of Fr. Fernando Suarez who is highly-revered by the sick for holding so-called healing Masses.
No less than Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. attended the Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Suarez, who many believe bears the grace of God’s miraculous healing of severe illnesses such as cancer, hypertension, diabetes, kidney and liver diseases, and paralysis. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
TRO on mayoral change sought
IMUS, Cavite — Incumbent Mayor Homer T. Saquilayan is set to file a petition for temporary restraining order (TRO) and injunction following the approval of the special order granting execution of a court decision declaring Emmanuel L. Maliksi as the duly-elected mayor of this town.
Lawyer Charles Perfecto A. Mercado, Saquilayan's legal counsel, said the petition would be filed Thursday before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Manila
to stop the implementation of the order. Imus Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 22 Judge Cesar A. Mangrobang issued the Special Order to Grant Execution Pending Appeal in connection with his November 15 decision on the protested mayoralty election. (Anthony Giron)
Zero crime in
BIÑAN — POLICE BIÑAN CITY, Laguna — The Biñan City Police Station said Tuesday that this bustling town in Laguna’s first district has maintained a zero crime rate record in the past three weeks.
Superintendent Leonard Luna, local police chief, said this improvement in peace and order couldbe attributed to the police's intensified campaign against all kinds of illegal activities like drug-trafficking, illegal possession of firearms and carnapping.
Luna also cited Mayor Marlyn “Lenlen” Alonte’s support for his force’s motivation in keeping the city free from robberies and other serious crimes. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
4 lost fishers rescued — PCG
LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Operatives from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued last Monday four of the five fishermen earlier reported missing in waters off Cagayan province.
PCG’s Senior Chief Petty Officer Ernesto Renon, chief of the PCG Station based in San Vicente, Aparri, Cagayan, identified the four as Jeffrey Laurelio, 29; Mariano Pagud Jr., 16; Elimar Laurelio, 29; and Nicanor Ascado, 29; all residents of Barangay Casambalangan, Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
The search for Alejandro Pascual, 50, of the same fishing village, continues, said Renon. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
Firms, CIAC, CDC get awards
CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga — Several top government officials from the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and private sectors were awarded led by Custom Commissioner Rozzano Rufino Biazon during the 10th anniversary of Bureau of Customs (BoC) in this Freeport, on Monday.
The BoC activity which highlighted the awarding of commendations and appreciations to top government officials from the Clark and private corporations which served as partners in their decade of operations here. Biazon personally presented certificates to awardees led by CIAC President and Chief Executive Officer Victor Jose Luciano.
