The Nationals couldn’t complete their perfect run when they faced the eventual champions, with the Iranians putting up an offensive masterclass in the second period after scoring three goals which practically set the match out of reach.
Despite the defeat, Filipina forward Georgie Ann Regencia was hailed as the best player of the game due to her stellar defensive efforts which also saw goalkeeper Rosalyn Lim holding her own with 34 saves out of the 38 attempts of the Iranians.
Iran is known for its high-scoring outputs after listing an average of 7.3 goals in its last three outings.
Illeana Jimenez led the Nationals in the second frame as they tried to recover from their lethargic start. Even though they had some counters, those were not enough after Iran’s troika in Yeganeh Bahrami, Hadiseh Poorhashemi and Asal Heydari delivered their respective goals that left the Filipinos in the dust until the final period.
The Philippines wrapped up its campaign in the five-country tournament with a 4-1 card behind Iran (5-0) and ahead of UAE (2-2), India (1-3) and host Kyrgyzstan (0-4).
