Lovi joins rock legends

MANILA, Philippines — Lovi Poe signed up for a new endorsement with Red Horse Beer, which has Manny Pacquiao, Pepe Smith and Slapshock as other endorsers.

“I am very flattered and happy that Red Horse chose me to be their new endorser,” says the actress-singer who took over Georgina Wilson and Isabelle Diaz Daza as previous endorsers. Lovi’s Redhorse commercial will be launched before yearend.

Meanwhile, the three-time Best Actress Awardee is busy finishing the film “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” an official Metro Manila Film Festival entry, where she is paired with Jericho Rosales under Jun Lana’s direction. Also in the film’s cast are Maricel Soriano, Gabby Concepcion, Ronaldo Valdez, Agot Isidro, Dennis Trillo, Paulo Avelino and Solenn Heussaff.

Lovi has also started work on “The Legacy” which she topbills with her good friend, Heart Evangelista. This also marks Lovi’s first pairing with Geoff Eigenmann.

Lovi is also currently doing Erik Matti’s “Aswang Chronicles” opposite Dingdong Dantes while her third album will be released next year.

Young JV’s love offering

“Alay,” which means offering, is the title and lead song in the second album of Young JV set for release in February 2012.

Who is Young JV? Well, he has quite a long name: Jose Mari Escriba Vicente Kapunan. In short, “Young JV.”

“After three or four years, they will call me Mang JV,” the 21-year-old artist joked.

He started singing at a young age, writing and composing his own songs. Though belonging to a popular military family – Kapunan – Young JV said that he never thought of joining the army. “My job is to help heal wounds and give inspiration through my songs,” he stressed.

His debut album, “Ready Or Not,” features 15 songs and four music videos. Some of the songs are “Ready Or Not,” “That Girl,” “Doing It Big,” “Can’t Get Enough.”

Young acts featured in choral contest

Jovit Baldivino, Zia Quizon, Bugoy Drilon, Princess Velasco, and Liezel Garcia are alternately featured as guest performers when the national finals of the MBC National Choral Competition get underway on Dec. 5-9 at Star City, Pasay City. 90.7 Love Radio’s Nicole Hyala and Chris Tsuper along with Kristine Dera and Rico Panyero host the week-long event.

The grand prize winner in the children’s division will receive P100,000 while the open category champion will bring home P150,000.

The semifinals will be held on Dec. 5-8, 5 p.m. inside the Star Theater, while the grand finals roll out on Dec. 9 at Aliw Theater.

New Aliw Awards officers elected

Elected recently was a new set of officers for the Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc. Founding president Ms. Alice H. Reyes was elected anew in Quezon City by majority of the Foundation members.

Elected with Reyes were Junne Quintana, 1st vice president; Ofelia Cajigal, 2nd vice president; Sonny Valencia, secretary; Francia Conrado, treasurer; and Joey Nombres, PRO. In the board of directors are Frank Rivera, Angelo Padua, Sylvia Cruz, Brian Lu, Jose Mari Chan and Ret. Col. Apolonio Reyes.
