Counsel offered for the depressed
IMUS, Cavite, Philippines — The Cathedral of Our Lady of Pillar, seat of the Diocese of Imus, has created a special counseling group that will attend to depressed or individuals in need of moral and spiritual guidance. This developed as the Diocese noted the increasing number of suicides and cases involving moral turpitude in Cavite.
Just last Friday, a man committed suicide by hanging himself with a cord out of depression inside his house in Bacoor town. Most Reverend Luis Antonio G. Tagle, incoming Archbishop of Manila and bishop of Imus Diocese, said it was the seventh such incident in Cavite in a span of 14 days. (Anthony Giron)
1,000 run for Laguna rivers
CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — Some 1,000 people participated in the “Run for the River” project launched Saturday under the Creek and River Rehabilitation Program of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
CENRO Chief Loida Humarang said the project, aimed at cleaning and maintaining two rivers and a creek, was participated in by private and public sector representatives.
Funds raised for the project will benefit the San Juan River, San Cristobal River, and the Baranca De Sipit creek, said Calamba City Mayor Joaquin Chipeco who led local officials in joining the run-for-a-cause. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
Dinalupihan to host nat'l HS
BALANGA CITY, Bataan — Governor Enrique “Tet” Garcia announced Saturday the approval of the construction of an additional secondary school in the municipality of Dinalupihan to accommodate the growing number of students in the northern part of the province.
Garcia said the establishment of a National High School in Dinalupihan was initiated and pushed by Bataan 1st District Coordinator Gila S. Garcia. The governor’s daughter said she is coordinating with Dinalupihan Mayor Joel Payumo whom she requested to donate a parcel of land to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the establishment of the national high school. Lucena strict on 'cracker sale
LUCENA CITY, Quezon — Lucena City Mayor Barbara Ruby Talaga ordered the other day the city’s “Task Force Paputok” to tighten monitoring of fireworks and firecrackers sale and intercept banned pyrotechnics devices that are often the cause of fatal accidents during the holiday season.
Talaga also issued a warning to traders not to go beyond the zone set by the local government for the sale of firecrackers and fireworks which is located at Marketview Subdivision near the Task Force Lucena compound, here. (Danny Estacio)
Koreans build school in Angeles
ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — City officials here lauded a group of Korean nationals for funding the construction of a building for high school students at Northville-15 in Barangay Cutud.
Vice Mayor Vicky Vega Cabigting who graced the turn-over ceremonies of the newly-completed Northville 15 Integrated School expressed her gratitude to Good People International Philippines (GPIP) for their efforts in choosing Angeles City as one of their project beneficiaries in the Philippines.
“This is an early Christmas gift for the residents of Northville 15, particularly the incoming high school students for the next school year,” she said. (Franco G. Regala)
