Taguig LGU officially trademarks 'Probinsyudad' with IPOPHL

The Taguig City government has officially registered the word “Probinsyudad” as its trademark with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). 

“Exciting news! PROBINSYUDAD is now a registered trademark! Let us continue to show our love and dedication to the City of Taguig,” the city government announced on March 11. 

A search of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) database showed the Taguig City government submitted its trademark application for “Probinsyudad” to the IPOPHL on Oct. 17 last year.

It showed that the Taguig City government is the applicant with Glen Concio as its representative. 

The city government applied for the “Probinsyudad” trademark under Class 41 for “exhibitions for cultural or educational purposes, publication of books and texts, other than publicity texts, film direction and production services, education, provision of training, entertainment, sporting and cultural activities, cultural, educational or entertainment services provided by amusement parks, circuses, zoos, art galleries and museum.”

According to the IPOPHL website, “A trademark is a word, a group of words, sign, symbol, logo or a combination thereof that identifies and differentiates the source of the goods or services of one entity from those of others.” 

IPOPHL added, “A trademark protects a business’ brand identity in the marketplace. Registration of it gives the owner the exclusive rights to prevent others from using or exploiting the mark in any way. Aside from being a source-identifier, differentiator, quality indicator, and an advertising device, a protective mark may also bring another stream of income to the owner through licensing or franchising.”
