DFA reports 209 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad

By Roy Mabasa The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday recorded 209 new confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad, the largest single-day increase in the past month. As of April 28, the total number of overseas Filipinos afflicted with coronavirus disease is 1,604. Of the total, 996 are undergoing treatment, 419 have recovered, and 189 succumbed to the virus. The Americas recorded the most number of cases of COVID-stricken Filipinos (457), followed by Europe (454), the Asia Pacific (360), and the Middle East and African regions (306). Despite the increasing number of COVID-19 infections among Filipinos abroad and the risks that the pandemic poses to the members of the Filipino community worldwide, the DFA gave the assurance that its foreign service posts are committed to attending to the needs of the affected whenever possible.
