The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo is hopeful the Supreme Court, acting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), will release soon a copy of the report on the initial vote recount in the electoral protest filed by former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

(FACEBOOK/ MANILA BULLETIN) "Hindi mo maiiwasan na lumabas na iyong balita, andiyan na 'yung report, nagsubmit ng draft decision si Justice (Benjamin) Caguiao. Why the delay?" vice presidential spokesman Barry Gutierrez said in a media briefing on Tuesday at the Quezon City Reception House. (It can't be avoided to ask after the news that came out, there is already a report, Justice Caguiao already submitted a draft decision, why the delay?) "The easiest way and best way to actually dispel any of these rumors, hindi naman damaging sa amin kundi sa PET (not damaging to us but to the PET) and in the process itself, is to come out with the report and make it public to have a general idea where we are going with this," he stressed. Gutierrez, who is also a legal adviser to Robredo, made the statement after the PET deferred for the second time this month its action on the Marcos' poll protest. Caguiao submitted his report on the results of the recount in Marcos’ three pilot provinces—Iloilo, Negros Oriental and Camarines Sur—on September 9, but the Tribunal has yet to vote on it. The PET decided to reset to October 15 the deliberation and voting in the Marcos election case. Under Rule 65 of the 2010 Rules of the PET, the Tribunal can decide to dismiss the protest or proceed with the ballot recount after examining these pilot provinces. "If we can get an offical copy of the report, that would go a long way towards understanding the direction of the decision," he said. "We hope the PET will act expeditiously," Gutierrez added. Amid the deferment, Gutierrez said they continue to trust that the PET would decide on the protest based on its own rules and actual count of votes. "It is business as usual to us. We just have to wait again for developments next Tuesday," Robredo's spokesman said. Gutierrez thanked members of various sectoral groups who gathered on Tuesday at the SC and other parts of the country to show their support for Robredo. "We hope when the PET decide on Oct. 15, the same level of vigilance and participation will continue," he said.
