Energy Conservation

CITY OF MALOLOS, Philippines — Amid strong calls of environment groups nationwide to act on the issue on climate change, a business; Megacorp in Bulacan saved millions of peso in energy conservation efforts they imple-mented this year.

The 2011 Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards (DEAEEA) recently granted an Outstanding Award to SM City Baliwag for what public relations officer Beverly Cruz said the mall’s “remarkable achievements in energy management and conservation in line to the call of addressing the climate change problem.”

As environment advocates blame oil plants in massive carbon emission, the said business hub achieved an energy savings of 319,360 liters of oil equivalent last year which is tantamount to P12.6 million. (Freddie C. Velez)

Batangas Police

BATANGAS CAPITOL, Philippines  — A total of P26M was allotted by the Batangas Provincial Government for the modernization and equipments of the Batangas Police Provincial Office (PPO). Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto led the Batangas officials in a simple turn-over ceremony at Camp Miguel Malvar recently.

The P26M modernization package was composed of 43 patrol motorcycles for municipal police stations and their auxiliary units; 4 units of Toyota Vios patrol car; five Mitsubishi AUV’s and pick-up trucks for PNP auxiliary vehicles.

Chief Supt, Atty. Gil C. Meneses, Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A director and Batangas police director Director, Police Senior Supt. Atty. Rosauro V. Acio lauded the lady governor in supporting the entire police in the province and having more capability to intensify campaign against lawlessness and strengthen police visibility. (Ferdinand F. Dagupan Unity

DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines  — For the sake of Christmas and love for his constituents , Mayor Benjie Lim is now extending his " hand of friendship" to all city officials especially his arch critic Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez. Peace and unity are all that Mayor Benjie Lim hopes for this Christmas.

As he addressed the City Fiesta 2011 Opening and Lighting ceremony on December 15 in front of the Museo na Dagupan, Lim has stressed that even those who wield much power have to stay humble and simple . (Liezle Basa Inigo)

Medical Equipment

ANGELES CITY, Philippines (PIA) — The chief executive officer of the US-based World Medical Relief Inc. (WMRI) guaranteed that the 40 footer container van containing the additional hospital equipment and supplies needed in a medical center here will arrive in the country January next year. "Dr. David Lee Zarate, our coordinator in Mindanao will get the shipment and facilitate the transport immediately in this city that will be intended for Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC),” George Samson of MWRI. RLMMC was formerly Ospital ning Angeles.

Migratory Birds 

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines  (PIA) — The livestock division of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 2 has assured the public that there are no migratory birds anywhere in the region based on the continuous monitoring of swamps, lakes and bodies of water that might be visited by migratory birds in the region.

Veterinary doctor Ronie Ernst Duque explained that even during the issue of avian influenza in the neighboring countries, the department, in collaboration with other partner agencies, have been conducting series of monitoring activities but no case were reported since then.
