The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has relieved all its 36 personnel assigned at its detention facility in Taguig City following the surprise inspection that led to the confiscation of several prohibited items.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco also instructed the new warden head Leander Catalog to segregate the more notorious detainees that need stricter control and regulations.
The surprise inspection was conducted on Jan. 30 at the BI detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
The seized items included bladed weapons, undeclared cash, cellphones and laptops which some inmates used to contact their cohorts in Japan to continue their criminal activities like extortion and drugs distribution.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla earlier ordered the BI to work out the early deportation of some Japanese detainees wanted in their home country for robbery, financial fraud and other capital crimes.
The Japanese government sought the immediate deportation of selected fugitives for prosecution and conviction.
"I have instructed the new warden facility management to redouble their efforts in improving services to prevent repetition of the same untoward incidents," Tansingco said.
