Barangay gets P5-M water facility
COMPOSTELA, Cebu, Philippines – A mountain barangay in this town north of Cebu City has finally realized its dreams of having an irrigation facility that will water farms and benefit several farmers around the area.
The P5-million Mulao Pump Irrigation project, located in the mountain barangay of Mulao, was officially inaugurated and turned over to the Mulao Farmer Irrigators Association, Inc. during a short ceremony on Wednesday.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia officially turned on the faucet to signal the completion of the irrigation project that has a service area of twenty five hectares and is seen to benefit at least 70 farmer beneficiaries.
The irrigation project was certified as completed and in compliance with the National Irrigation (NIA) Administration Engineering Standards by NIA 7 Acting Regional Manager Diosdado Rosales and Garcia.
Mulao barangay chairman Asterio Tanjay, who received the completed project on behalf of his constituents, said the water works is “a realization of the farmers' dream to have a system that will continuously water their farms even during the El Niño season.”
