Saquilayan gets TRO, stays Mayor
IMUS, Cavite, Philippines — Incumbent Mayor Homer T. Saquilayan would stay in office once the Commission on Elections (Comelec) decided on his injunction appeal following the issuance of a 60-day temporary restraining order (TRO) on the takeover writ that was granted earlier by a local court to former Mayor Emmanuel L. Maliksi.
Comelec First Division Presiding Commissioner Rene V. Sarmiento granted last Tuesday the TRO which stopped Maliksi from taking over the position of Saquilayan after the court favored his protest in the May 10, 2010 automated elections. (Anthony Giron)
Turtle hatchlings released at sea
SUBIC BAY, Zambales — The Subic Bay Freeport is now teeming with sea turtles as hatchlings crawled out of their nest on Thursday from one of the five clusters of eggs that were found last week at the All Hands Beach Resort inside this premier Freeport.
Cynthia Robles of Greg Waterworld, whose business is based inside the beach, said her husband, Greg, saw the first batch of hatchlings crawling towards the sea last week. Each cluster has around 100 hatchlings. Environment official Emerita Sebial identified the hatchlings released as Olive Ridley sea turtles. (Jonas Reyes)
Quezon plants 190,000 new trees
PAGBILAO, Quezon — The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO-DENR) here announced Thursday that the environment office has planted at least 190,000 forest and fruit trees in various areas in the first, second and fourth districts of the province.
CENRO Officer Fred Palencia said the trees were planted on the roadsides of Sariaya, Tayabas, Pagbilao towns and some private and public schools in Lucena City. He added that under the Protected Area Community Base Resource Management Agreement, the areas to be planted are Mounts Banahaw and Cristobal in Sariaya. (Danny Estacio)
Biggest market in Bacoor opens
BACOOR, Cavite — Residents in this town now have a big wet and dry market. The 678 Wet and Dry Market on Molino Boulevard has just opened in a one stop shop area which virtually has all the needs of the citizens.
The market, inaugurated by Mayor Strike Revilla and Architect Richard Tan, is the biggest so far in Bacoor, the second most populous town in Cavite.
With 600 tenants, the market is in a two-hectare area which encompasses the 678 Commercial Complex and the so-called Sakayan Terminal. The state-of-the-art area has a big garden and parking area. (Athony Giron)
Elfa sees faster police response
ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Responding to crime incidents is expected to speed-up even more as the police station has acquired another vehicle from a local official recently.
Supt. Rodino Elfa, Antipolo Police chief said the police personnel is grateful to District 2 Representative Romeo Acop for his donation of a Toyota Hi-Lux back-to-back vehicle which is intended for use by the policemen as a mobile vehicle.
Acop, a retired police official, is in his first term as this city’s 2nd District representative to Congress. (Nel B. Andrade)
