DOST offers its research, technical services to sectors affected by COVID-19, ECQ

By Dhel Nazario The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) research and development institutes and regional offices are offering their technical services and assistance to communities that are affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) over Luzon.

(DOST LOGO / MANILA BULLETIN) The Regional Standards and Testing Laboratories (RSTL) of DOST Regions XI and XIII continue to provide testing and analytical services to their clients. They are offering their services for free or at a discount, especially for necessary products that will be used by local government units (LGUs), hospitals, and other government institutions. The DOST- Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC) has ready designs for evacuation tents, hospital beds, and crushing machines for spent medical vials. They also have agro-machinery designs for livelihood purposes. The DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) can provide complimentary food for babies and children. They are available at 37 technology adopters which are either local government units, state universities and colleges, non-government organizations, or private enterprises in different regions. The DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) can use their new satellite imagery and other complementary data in providing useful data analytics, e.g., movement of people, and computational studies related to COVID-19. DOST’s Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) can offer sterilization services using e-beam irradiation for medical devices. The agency has also affirmed its commitment to work hand in hand with the local and foreign science and technology community in generating the needed knowledge and developing innovative solutions to abate the COVID-19 pandemic.
