GOSSIP GIRL: When OG sexy queens Alma Moreno and Dina Bonnevie have 'bardagulas' on the street

Bardagula is a slang term for online bullying or bashing or fighting. It is based on a Filipino term “bardagol” which means giant.

So when I say OG actresses Alma Moreno and Dina Bonnevie are having a “bardagulan”, that simply means a streetfight, but on television of course not in reality.

For those who just came across the word OG, it means Original Gangster.  In Pinoy Entertainment, we all know that the original gangsters in sexy flicks are Moreno in her movie Eva Fonda (1976) and Bonnevie in Katorse (1980). These two OGs have original breasts and noses, unlike most sexy actresses at the moment.

Now the two former sexy stars have graduated from doing sexy flicks and are happy to do drama and comedies nowadays. Viva Entertainment and Cignal’s Atenean director Temi Cruz offered the two a sitcom proposal they couldn’t refuse. The former Japan-based engineer turned writer-director conceptualized Kalye Queens based on his own experience in his village in the south of Metro Manila where in one street the left side has a row of multi-million mansions while their neighbors directly in front of them are members of the lower income bracket with clothelines paraded in their front yard.

Mandy played by Moreno lives in the rich side of the street which belongs to a posh subdivision and Bonnevie lives on the humble side of the street which encompasses the barangay limits of Kapit-Bisig. The two women used to be the closest buddies when they were younger, but their friendship turned sour when Mandy’s father won the lottery jackpot and their family moved to middle-class subdivision Altaville. More than the class difference brought by their separation, their rivalry was ignited when Telly married Mandy’s ex-boyfriend Roy (Jeric Raval).

Their conflict heightens between the neighboring communities of Altaville and Kapit-bisig when the  LGU designates the intersecting streets of Calachuchi (on Kapit-bisig) and Lavender (on Altaville) as public passageways to various parts of the town. Given their roles as respective leaders of their communities, Mandy and Telly will do everything under their power to fight for their territories. 

Last Saturday was the premiere of the new TV program which co-stars OG comedians Marissa Sanchez and yours truly, OG action Jeric Raval, OG Playboy model (1968) Marissa Delgado and freshest batch of young stars Jairus Aquino, Vitto Marquez, Aubrey Caraan  and  Lyca Gairanoid.  

As part of this sitcom, I am assuring you a laugh-out-loud experience every time you watch Kalye Queens. This coming Saturday, the two kalye queens will fight an issue of food poisoning in their areas. Tune in every Saturday at 8:30pm on TV5, right after Oh My Korona, and every Sunday at 8:00pm on Sari Sari Channel (available on Cignal Channel 3, SatLite Channel 30 and Cignal Play.
