OWWA distributes P1.5M worth of calamity, livelihood aid to distressed OFWs in Mt. Province
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has distributed a total of P1,477,000 cash assistance to the distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Mountain Province, mostly victims of natural calamity and displaced workers due to Covid-19.
National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) executive director Dindi Tan told the Manila Bulletin that the distribution of cash assistance and livelihood grants was made in a one-day convergence with the OFWs in CAR last Thursday.
This includes the payout of the Welfare Assistance Program (WAP) subsidy to areas that were shaken by the magnitude 7.0 earthquake, weather disturbances, and other natural calamity instances; distribution of scholarship grants; and awarding of cash subsidies under the OWWA’s livelihood flagship program Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) platform.
Tan and OWWA-CAR OIC Regional Director Luzviminda C. Tumaliuan spearheaded the distribution of scholarships and livelihood aid in Tadian, Mt. Province amounting to P895,000; P552,000 WAP payout to Bauko town; and additional P30,000 calamity assistance to beneficiaries in Lower Bauko.
Former OFWs Gigi Sali-im, Pauline Songag, and Regina Cosapi, receives P20,000 apiece for their business grant.
An OFW family business corporation named OFW Kabaddang Organization; Tue Balik Pinas Organization; and the Vangad-Madnoh Organization were granted a capital subsidy of P89,000, P60,000, andP75,000, respectively.
During the early phase of the distribution of grants, a total of P552,000 WAP payout was disbursed to 184 OFWs hit by a magnitude 7.0 quake in Lower Bauko, Mt. Province.
“This is a continuation of our effort to reach our OFWs, not only those who suffer from distressing circumstances but also our beloved OFWs that require our services. We are committed to this line of services and we continue even trekking the highest mountains to reach our Kababayans (countrymen) and give them the services that they deserve,” Tan said in her message to Manila Bulletin.
