Bacolod starts untangling 'spaghetti wires' which mayor calls eyesores on the road

BACOLOD CITY – The city government started removing tangled cable wires on the busiest thoroughfares here over the weekend.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez ordered the removal of tangled cable wires which he called “spaghetti wires” and nuisance or eyesores on the road.

Secretary to the Mayor Atty. Karol Joseph Chiu said the Spaghetti Wires Task Force will conduct the operation every weekend, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, when there is no traffic and won’t result into hassle for commuters.

Chiu said the removal of spaghetti wires is not easy and consistency on the job is necessary.

He thanked telecommunications firms and power service providers for their cooperation in the endeavor.

Benitez said that a team from various telecommunications firms should be working to untangle the wires to ensure no disruption of service.

Aside from spaghetti wires, Benitez said they will also remove redundant or unnecessary posts on the road.

A day after untangling spaghetti wires on San Juan St., Benitez met representatives of telecommunications companies to discuss the possibility of mapping and surveying feasible areas for underground cable installation.

Benitez informed them that the city government will create a technical team to coordinate on this matter.

Priority areas are Lacson St. and the main thoroughfares here.

Alongside this initiative will be a discussion with establishments and other institutions like government offices, hospitals, and schools to ensure that their connectivity shall be stable and at high speed.
