Addressing Metro Manila traffic tackled in Cabinet meeting — PCO

Solving Metro Manila's traffic crisis and the country's economic outlook were on the agenda during President Marcos' meeting with his Cabinet secretaries in Malacañang on April 3, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said.

While it did not go into specific details, the PCO wrote on Facebook that addressing the National Capital Region (NCR)'s traffic woes was discussed during the 16th Cabinet Meeting on Wednesday.

It can be recalled that the 2023 Tomtom Traffic Index released in January found that Metro Manila topped the list of metro areas with the worst traffic last year.

The study said it takes an average of 25 minutes and 30 seconds to drive for 10 kilometers in NCR, a figure 50 seconds slower than its previous record.

In an exclusive interview with GMA Integrated News in January, the President said the government was looking for ways to ease the commuters' woes. He added that an effective and efficient public transport system is vital in addressing NCR's traffic congestion.

In particular, Marcos said the government was planning on developing the Pasig River Ferry stations to address the situation. Informal settlers, who would be affected, would be relocated.

Meanwhile, the 16th Cabinet meeting on Wednesday likewise centered on the Philippines' economic outlook.

According to Malacañang, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) emphasized that growth will be driven by private investments, supported by reforms, in light of the fiscal consolidations of the government.

During the meeting, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of Finance (DOF) presented their reports on the country’s inflation, monetary policy, and fiscal situation.

In addition, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) updated the President on the disbursements and deficit projections for 2024-2028.
