1,700 cops deployed for Holy Week in W. Visayas

ILOILO CITY -- At least 1,700 cops will be deployed across Western Visayas for the Holy Week.

Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, director of Police Regional Office (PRO-6), released the order this week for all units to operationalize security and public safety plans.

“The unit commanders will deploy their personnel in identified strategic areas to prevent the occurrence of crimes and to protect the public from falling victim to the lawless elements,” said Dongbo.

Police presence will be beefed up in strategic locations all over Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

It includes churches, bus terminals, seaports, airports, and key tourist destinations such as world-famous Boracay Island in Aklan province.

“There will be random checkpoints, establishment of Police Assistance Desks, conduct of mobile and detective patrols, and other crime prevention endeavors,” added Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, PRO-6 spokesperson.

Different government agencies are also on heightened alert for the Holy Week including the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), which may deal with a different influx of travelers as restrictions have been eased since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
