MANILA, Philippines — We’ve always wondered why there had been so many Cebuanos who’ve made it big in the music scene. Among them Ms. Pilita Corrales, Dulce, Verni Varga, Chad Borja, Sheryn Regis and many others. And now, here’s Tria Bascon, dubbed “Manila’s Song Siren,” also from Cebu and very proud of her heritage.

The name may not immediately ring a bell but Tria Bascon has been around since the late ’80s when she started to make her presence felt in her native Cebu. She always sang with a band, Tria recalled during a recent sumptuous luncheon get-together at the Summer Palace of Edsa Shangri-La Hotel. After performing for some time in Cebu’s popular restaurant-music lounge Charlie’s, where she originally worked as a bartender, Tria moved to Montebello Hotel.

Soon she found her way in Manila, doing the rounds of the music circuits mostly in hotels. Before she knew it, Tria found herself performing in Almaty, Kazaksthan, Jakarta, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, China. In 2009-2010, Tria performed at the Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Tria came home recently to record an album, her very first, entitled “Wanderlust.”

She said, “I know I could have done this a long time ago, but as they say there’s always the right time for anything you’d like to do. And now is the right time for me to do this album.”

She gave credit to Moy Ortiz of The Company who helped her package the album.

Guest performers are Jose Mari Chan and The Company.

“Wanderlust” contains “Two for the Road” (featuring Mel Villena), “I’m Old Fashioned,” “Magkikita Pa Rin Naman Tayo,” by Moy Ortiz, “Anos Dourados,” (featuring Aquarela) “Nice To Be Around,” “Perfidia,” “Arrivederci,” “A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square,” “I Remember You,” “La Belle Vie,” “Baby It’s Cold Outside” (featuring Jose Mari Chan) and “The Party’s Over.”

Razorback releases new album

Razorback recently launched their latest album at the Music Museum marking the band’s 21st anniversary.

The band is composed of Tirso Ripoll, vocalist Kevin Roy, bassist Louie Talan and drummer Brian Velasco.

Razorback’s 5th album entitled “Three Minutes of Glory” is a fusion of 12 different rock genres. Taking almost three years to perfect, this new album was a result of the member’s collaborative conscious effort to remain faithful to their rock and roll genre.

Razorback recently signed up as official endorser of Red Horse Beer, a sponsor of the album.
