Robbery with 2 counts of homicide filed vs 4 cops, ex-police sarge in Cebu
Criminal charges were filed against four policemen and an ex-police sergeant for their alleged involvement in the robbery and killing of a town councilor bet and her husband in San Fernando, Cebu.
Gen. Dionardo Carlos, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said that aside from criminal charges, administrative cases were also slapped against Staff Sergeants Rene Catamora, Junrey Ypil, Junrey Batobalonos and Master Sgt. Alvin Enad, who is yet to be accounted.
The fifth suspect, former Staff Sgt. Esmeraldo Quillosa, recently surrendered and was slapped with a criminal case.
"They are also placed under custodial facility while they are facing charges of robbery with double homicide before the Prosecutor’s Office," said Carlos.
On February 13, victims Ma. Louela Barangui-an, a village councilor, and her husband Pedro were discovered lifeless inside their house. Louela was a candidate for town councilor in the May 2022 elections.
The involvement of the five suspects were established during the conduct of the investigation.
“These are actions being undertaken to make sure that the wheels of justice are moving. They are relieved from their posts to avoid any undue influence while there is an ongoing probe,” said Carlos.
