MANILA, Philippines — “A Mother’s Story” tackles the story of an undocumented Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) named Medy and her experiences in the land of opportunities, America.

Pokwang who plays Medy in the movie said she can relate to the role having been an OFW in the past. Unlike Medy, however, Pokwang was not a TNT (tago-nang-tago).

“I can feel the role, feel na feel ko talaga ang character kong the Medy sa pelikulang ito.” The movie is produced by The Filipino Channel (TFC) especially for Pinoy subscribers abroad. But because of the positive feedback that “A Mother’s Story” received when it was shown abroad, Star Cinema decided to show it here, too.

Pokwang was the choice of ABS-CBN top honcho Gabby Lopez to play the role of Medy.

“Nakatulong sa akin ng malaki ang paglabas ko sa ‘MMK’ ng limang beses na,” Pokwang said. “Nung binabasa ko ang script, naiyak na ako talaga. Ibang-ibang Pokwang ang makikita ninyo dito. At kung nakarelate ako ng husto sa role ko, dahil sa hindi nalalayo ang istory ng pelikulang ito sa buhay ko.”

She recalled, amid tears, that in 1998, her daughter died while she was an OFW in Abu Dhabi. At 5-and-a-half years old, her daughter was diagnosed with brain tumor. She was not able to come home to see her one last time. “Ang sakit-sakit talaga ng nangyari.’’

Directed by John D. Lasatin, the movie also stars Rayver Cruz, Beth Tamayo, who is now US based, Xyriel Manabat, Nonie Buencamino, Ana Capri and Daria Ramirez. It opens Jan. 8.

Cyber Boso law put to use

With the current scandal involving the sex video of the late Ramgen Revilla and his girlfriend Janelle Manahan that proliferated in the Net, the Cyber Boso bill of Rep. Irwin Tieng will be put to good use.

The family of Janelle is set to sue Ram’s younger siblings who they accuse of uploading the offensive sex video. However, Ramgen’s mother, Gennylyn, had denied the accusation.

Anyway, this 2012, Solar’s News Channel (under the management of his uncle Wilson Tieng) is set to start airing but Rep. Tieng said he won’t be involved in it. “I’m very happy in politics. My only wish is that they also support me the way other networks do,” the young solon expressed.

The Party-List representative turned out to be one of the staunch supporters of the entertainment industry in Congress. He has been instrumental in lowering the amusement tax (for concerts, musicals and movies) from 30 percent to 10 percent.

He also helps OMB Chairman Ronnie Rickets in battling piracy.
