Legal cluster formed to resolve cases, issues involving power sector -- DOJ

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday, Aug. 25, said it has formed a legal cluster that will resolve issues and cases affecting the power sector.
“This will resolve long-standing issues in the power sector that disincentivize investments and help our fiscal situation,” DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said in a statement.
“We have identified 111 cases and prioritized them in terms of impact on the energy situation of the country,” Remulla said.
“These will be systematically addressed with full transparency and in consultation with relevant agencies with the objective to ensure cheap and reliable power supply,” he also said.
Remulla urged stakeholders “to work closely together under the rule of law framework.”
The DOJ said the legal cluster is composed of the Office of the Secretary of Justice, the legal group of the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM), and the energy division of the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC).
It noted that PSALM handles the privatization of power assets and liabilities of the National Power Corporation, among other functions, while the OGCC serves as PSALM’s corporate counsel.
