The Department of Justice (DOJ) will start conducting this Monday (March 9) the preliminary investigation hearings on the criminal complaint filed against Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board member Sandra Cam and her co-respondents, including her son Marco Martin, over their alleged involvement in the killing of a Masbate vice mayor last year.

The preliminary investigation will be conducted by a panel of prosecutors composed of Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Juan Pedro Navera who sits as the chairperson, Assistant State Prosecutor Josie Christina Dugay, and Prosecution Attorney Eugene Yusi.
The preliminary investigation will be made into the murder and frustrated murder complaint filed last Feb. 21 by the National Bureau of Investigation-Death Investigation Division (NBI-DID) concerning the death of Batuan, Masbate Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III who was killed in Sampaloc, Manila on Oct. 9, 2019 while visiting his brother there.
The complainants are Yuson’s wife Lalaine, his brother Charlie Yuson Jr., and Rufino Alforte. Both Charlie and Alforte were with the slain victim along with Wilfredo Pineda during the shooting incident.
The panel has already sent out subpoenas to all seven respondents in the case and told them to appear at the hearing this March 9 as well as the following hearing set on March 16.
The subpoenas warned that “failure on your part to comply with this subpoena shall be considered as a waiver on your part to present your defense in this preliminary investigation and the case shall be considered submitted for resolution based on complainant’s evidence only.”
Aside from the Cams, the other respondents in the case are Nelson Cambaya, Junel Gomez, Bradford Solis, Juanito De Luna, and Rigor Dela Cruz. Gomez, Solis, De Luna, and Dela Cruz were arrested following the killing of the victim.
The PCSO executive previously denied Lalaine’s allegations that the former was behind in the killing. Cam claimed she only got dragged into the issue because her son ran and lost against the victim’s son, Charmax Jan Yuson, in the 2019 mayoral elections in Masbate.
Last Wednesday (March 4), Lalaine posted P30,000 bail before a Manila court over the libel charge filed against her by Cam in October last year for tagging her in Yuson III's slay.
