Septuagenarian passenger arrested at NAIA for illegal possession of firearms
A 70-year-old male passenger has been apprehended by authorities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 for allegedly carrying firearms and ammunition while boarding a domestic flight.
The passenger attempted to deposit a caliber .22 Ruger pistol with a magazine assembly and a caliber .45 Thompson pistol containing three magazines and 20 rounds of ammunition before the departure firearms booth of NAIA Terminal 3 last Tuesday, April 2, according to a report from the NAIA Police Station 3's Aviation Security Unity-National Capital Region.
Upon verification, it was revealed that the Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) of the passenger did not match the serial numbers of the firearms, as they appeared to have been tampered with, authorities bared.
This prompted the Duty Firearms Facilitator at NAIA to effect an arrest against the individual, who was apprised of his constitutional rights. The procedure was recorded in compliance with Senate Bill 2199 or the Body-Worn Camera Act.
The suspect was placed under the custody of NAIA Police Station 3 for proper disposition and filing of case.
The seized firearms and ammunition will be used as supporting pieces of evidence against him.
