More than 800 houses were either totally or partially destroyed in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) alone during Wednesday’s strong earthquake that jolted the northern part of Luzon.
Based on the data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the 7.0 magnitude quake also damaged 18 roads and other infrastructure in Ilocos Region, CAR, Central Luzon and Metro Manila.
In Metro Manila, seven structures were reported to have sustained minor and large cracks that include schools and government structures, in Malabon. Pasay, Marikina, Manila, Quezon City and Parañaque City.
For the damaged houses, a total of 11 houses were totally damaged while 857 were classified as partially damaged.
Abra, where the epicenter of the quake was located, has the most number of damaged houses with 468 followed by Mt. Province with 261.
Seventy-three houses were damaged in Benguet while 66 houses in Kalinga.
A total of 29 roads and bridges were also damaged in CAR, Central Luzon, Ilocos Sur and Cagayan Valley Region based on the assessment.
The NDRRMC also reported that 37 areas in Central Luzon and CAR experienced power loss due to the earthquake but most of them were already restored on the same day.
As to the casualties, the NDRRMC said only four persons were confirmed dead and explained that the fifth fatality reported in Cagayan turned out to be false information.
