The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday filed a complaint against a female driver behind the viral towing confrontation.
The video was posted by Facebook page Gadget Addict on Tuesday showing the confrontation between the female driver and the enforcers who tried to tow her vehicle for illegal parking.
The driver kept on arguing in a raised voice telling Special Task Force Operations Bong Nebrija that she arrived within 5 minutes after they flagged the traffic violation.
Nebrija explained the traffic rules and regulations to the driver, however, she keeps on interrupting him.
The woman refused to give her driver's license when an MMDA official approached her.
The husband of the female driver was also caught on video saying that his wife is a prosecutor.
An enforcer also humbly asked the husband of the lady prosecutor to stay for the police report regarding the damaged his wife did to their MMDA motorcycle. It was allegedly hit by his wife.
But the husband told them she has to be taken to a hospital because he bled allegedly because of stress.
Based on the reports, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said his agency has filed at least four cases against the woman for illegal parking, violating the number coding scheme, arrogance and running away on a short chase from traffic enforcers.
The female driver and her husband then went to MMDA's office to apologize, reports say.
"We would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the MMDA enforcers especially to Colonel Bong Nebrija and constable Azures," the woman said.
"We ask for your understanding on the matter as well as emotions got the better of us," she added.
After the apology, MMDA said they are not backing down in the raps they are planning to file, saying “charges will push through.”
“She is a lawyer and we can also file disbarment. Other possible cases are being studied like direct assault to traffic enforcers, most of all an MMDA service vehicle was damaged noong tinangkang tumakas at may muntik na ma-injure. Offense to the person in authority. It is a criminal offense,” Nebrija said.
Meanwhile, the video has caused a lot of reactions online.
As of this writing, it has garnered around 11 million views and 255, 000 shares. (with a report from Jel Santos)
