Floyd rejects 50-50 split, spoils 'super fight'
MANILA, Philippines — Floyd Mayweather Jr. has rejected Manny Pacquiao’s 50-50 sharing scheme for a proposed super showdown between the two superstars in May, leaving the fighting congressman disillusioned again, and with no other recourse but to start looking elsewhere for an opponent.
In a report shown on ESPN SportsCenter early Friday morning in the US, Mayweather told the show via email that he is not accepting Pacquiao’s equal sharing of the revenue for a planned fight in Las Vegas.
“He asked about a 50-50 split and I told him no, that can’t happen, but what can happen is you can make more money fighting me than you have made in your career,” said Mayweather via email to ESPN.
“I also let him know I’m in control of my side but he needs to get on the same page as his promoter so we can make this fight happen,” added Mayweather.
Informed about Mayweather’s latest rant, Pacquiao told the Manila Bulletin that a “50/50 is fair,” citing their last pay-per-view performance as proof that he is not being unreasonable.
“My pay-per-view numbers are bigger than his,” said Pacquiao, pointing that he did 1.4 million buys when he fought Juan Manuel Marquez last November while Mayweather only drew 1.25 million when he faced Victor Ortiz in September.
“All he has to do is look at our pay-per-view numbers to understand why it would be fair for us to split it in half,” said the 33-year-old Pacquiao.
Pacquiao received a surprise call on Thursday from Mayweather, asking that they immediately get the fight done.
Mayweather’s announcement that he is not willing to give Pacquiao equal sharing was sent to SportsCenter anchor Stan Verrett.
The same network’s boxing authority, Dan Rafael, told the Manila Bulletin that “my people at ESPN swear that the SportsCenter anchor received an email personally from Floyd in which he stated it couldn’t be a 50-50 deal.”
Still, Team Pacquiao is not totally abandoning plans of securing a Mayweather fight as Pacquiao adviser Mike Koncz is headed to the US to meet up with Top Rank chief Bob Arum to discuss his boss’s next move.
But if a Mayweather match cannot be made, there is a mouthwatering rematch with Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto as a solid backup plan for June 9 either at the Thomas and Mack Center or the MGM Grand.
Pacquiao beat Cotto the first time in November 2009 but since then the shaven-skulled Latino has bounced back, winning three straight fights.

Obviously it's just a front that floyd calls out pacquiao. he's actually have that in his mind not to budge when they reach to this share negotiation point. Anyways, I hope the next opponent of manny is not cotto. There's no point in doing this fight. With bradley is better. I would rather watch him fight marquez again than cotto whom he totally dominated

What is mouthwatering from a rematch with cotto? We have watched it already and were just waiting for the ref to stop the fight. Manny will fight for what this time???? Arums idea to keep cotto in toprank?

Prior to the ultimate plan of both parties they concur on the purse sharing of 50-50 as long as the fight will be come about. But now heres Floyd demanding a higher prize reward of 70-30 sharing... Why not meet at the core... The PACMAN must demand or insist the 50-50 allotment of the incentive prize and not cowed with the strategy of Mayweather...
Pacquiao (the Honorabel Congressman) is being lenient (50-50 split)enough just to fight with Mayweather (the CONVICTED Felon). The moral story is that the FELON is scared to death to fight the HONORABLE Congressman. Should we say more?

Mayweather is full of air, he's not sincere to fight Pacman. If I will be Pacman, I wil never entertain any offer from Mayhangin. Let him sit sa "prisohan" and he will realize how much money ang nawala sa kanya.
Get your facts right Floyd never ever lost a fight and Pacquiao lost many times b4 and even if he takes 30% split it will be more then he has made n his who,e life career. Floyd is being nice to even want to give 45% to Pacquiao ! Floyd is mohamed Ali dude never lost

Come on, Floyd! You need the money more than Manny does. You better take the 50-50 offer now than find yourself staring at a 40-60 or 35-65 plate months later, when your marketability would have considerably dwindled and your credibility both as a person and a businessman terribly been tarnished after your 3-month prison vacation. Open your eyes, don't pretend people want to see you more than Manny. The truth is, fans are eager to see you beaten by the Pacman. Lose the fight bagging with pride the 50% share, or get up from the canvass pocketing in humiliation a much lesser purse.
Floyd Mayweather is a scared spoiled brat. Manny should let him beg instead of courting that "fuckin" coward and doing his childish theatrics. Let floyd weather on his own percieved glory and end up his career as the coward who still thinks himself as the best without probing it by always refusing to fight Manny. "the cowards of this wierd world".
