Pinoys at the Golden Globes

BEVERLY HILLS – Bravo to our Fil-Am fashion designers who made their presence felt on the red carpet in the recently concluded 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Monique Lhuillier, Oliver Tolentino and Alan Del Rosario showcased their respective creations at Hollywood’s biggest party of the year, the Golden Globes.
Red carpet favorite, Monique dressed up Sarah Michelle Gellar, the actress who is portraying twins in the TV series “Ringer,” in a pouffy ink-swirl blue and white eye-catching gown that made heads turn on the red carpet.
Oliver, who is creating a name for himself as the eco-friendly fashion designer, created a green beaded piña gown for Stuart Brazell, host of “This Week in Reality TV and lead correspondent of ABC’s “On the Red Carpet” show.
He also created a burgundy whimsical dress for my daughter Ella and a mint green long gown for my other daughter Nikki who both attended the Globes this year. To make my husband, Ruben, look smashing this year, Oliver also made a suede tux for him for the special occasion. Ruben later told us that even George Clooney complimented him on his tux.
Former Miss Universe-turned-journalist Margaret Gardiner from South Africa also donned a lacey sleeveless tube beige gown for the Globes specially created for her by Oliver.
As for myself, fashion designer Alan Del Rosario created a beaded sleeveless layered burgundy and purple gown for the said occasion.
Ironically, it was the first time that the two Oscar Designers Challenge finalists – Alan (2009) and Oliver (2010) – met. The two good-looking and charming award-winning fashion designers hit it off quickly and partied at the Globes with the rest of us.

Here are some of the highlights:
Controversial actress Lindsay Lohan was spotted at the HBO party and shooing away paparazzi and fans who wanted to take her photo. She kept covering her face with her hands or her hair.
Socialite sisters Paris and Nicky Hilton also attended the Golden Globe parties but tried to avoid photographers and excited fans who wanted autographs and photos by staying on their cell phones all night.
Definitely the best party of the night was the Warner Bros./InStyle party where they duplicated famous artists’ paintings like “The Kiss” or “Self Portrait” by Picasso using only Godiva chocolates.
Tilda Swinton, stunning in a periwinkle jacket and fishtail skirt by Haider Ackermann was chit chatting with Elton John who had a diamond-studded tiger on his glittery vest.
Madonna was the most sought after celebrity what with even Dustin Hoffman grabbing his own small camera to take a photo of the Material Girl.
Mark Wahlberg, who is very religious and a devout Roman Catholic, reminded us to order him a prayer book that originated from the Philippines because “my wife always gets my copy. So I need another one.”
Statuesque Charlize Theron, who had a plunging chiffon Dior couture gown, kept on distracting the poor dapper Leonardo DiCaprio as she stood and leaned forward while talking to him.
David Duchovny of “Californication” started loosening his tie and taking off his jacket once he lost in his TV category to Idris Elba of “Luther.” He started coaching his tablemates to toast and drink the night away with all that Moet bubbly on the table.
Jodie Foster, who came in late with her two sons in tow, was excited to bring her children to the show for the first time.
Lea Michele of “Glee” created heart attacks on the red carpet with her very sexy and revealing, some say not “age-appropriate,” Marchesa gown.
Evan Rachel Wood, who was resplendent in her iridescent blue green feathery Gucci Premiere gown but every time she walked or moved, a feather or two is left on the red carpet. I even collected three feathers from that gown that night while she was just leaving the red carpet.
Angelina Jolie, who is known for loving the color black, shocked everybody when she arrived at the Globes in a white silky Atelier Versace gown with a red collar highlight and a handsome Brad Pitt following her slowly with a cane.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt of “50/50” repeatedly told us kiddingly that we were the one and only reason why the Golden Globes is the best party of the year.
