A technical fault in the Gardner substation of Manila Electric Company (Meralco) in Muntinlupa had caused power interruptions of roughly 40 minutes primarily in Makati and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) business districts.
The affected areas, according to Meralco, had been those in Urdaneta and Kamagong in Makati; Fort Bonifacio and Taguig City; and had also spread to other parts of Metro Manila such as in Pasay, Pasig, Pateros and San Juan.
The power interruptions, according to the utility firm, started at 10:53am on Thursday (July 18); but service was restored within a span of roughly 40 minutes.
Meralco Spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga narrated that “our crews responded immediately and all affected circuits and power supply was restored at 11:34am.”
Nevertheless, he qualified that Meralco’s service crew had still been at the Gardner substation until the afternoon “to investigate the incident” – including the trigger of the technical glitch.
“The root cause of the outage is yet to be determined,” he stressed, while emphasizing that the company “will further look into this matter as part of our post-outage operation procedure.”
