MANILA, Philippines — Party-list lawmakers in the House of Representatives Tuesday called for a stop to the construction of an intermodal bus and train station or depot of Metro Rail Transit 7, fearing this will displace farmers and urban poor residing Caloocan City and Quezon City.

Anakpawis party-list Rep. Rafael Mariano, Bayan Muna party-list Rep.Teodoro “Teddy” Casiño and Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Emmerenciana de Jesus have asked the House committees on agrarian reform and transportation to review the MRT-7 contract.

Mariano, Casino, and De Jesus want the House panel to dig deep into complaints, particularly of affected farmers, who claimed they were not consulted on the planned construction of the intermodal MRT-7 deport in their area and some parts of Bulacan.

“Since the land is the subject of an agrarian case and still pending with the Presidential Agrarian Reform Council (PARC), the Araneta family claiming ownership over the land has no right to impose policies and decisions regarding the land which included consenting to the construction of the intermodal station of MRT 7,” Mariano said.

MRT 7 is a $1.235-billion government project linking the Light Rail Transit (LRT) line 1 and MRT 3 that will run from Tungkong Mangga in San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan, to SM City North EDSA, passing through Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City and Tala, Caloocan City.
