Hog vaccination
ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) — Capiz’s Office of the Provincial Veterinarian will start conducting massive hog cholera vaccination next week after vaccines bought by the Capiz provincial government arrive. The vaccination will be in partnership with the agriculture offices of the different local government units (LGUs) in the province.
Vaccination against hog cholera is deemed important to prevent the occurrence and spread of the disease. The prevention of hog cholera and other animal diseases here is given attention by the provincial government as it annually sets aside funds for the purchase of vaccines as part of the province’s disease control program.
Investment promotion
SIQUIJOR (PIA) — At least five members of the Technical Working Group from the local government unit (LGU) of San Juan and two others from the provincial government of Siquijor and one from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will attend the second training module under the Capacity Development Program on January 30-31 at Marriott Hotel, Cebu City.
The training is part of the continued support of the GTZ Private Sector Promotion Program and DTI to the local government units (LGUs) that have adopted the Local and Regional Economic Development (LRED) TWG Learning Session: Strategies for Investment Promotion.
Law moratorium
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Dumaguete City’s Land Transportation Office (LTO) officials and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Negros Oriental agreed to a moratorium on the implementation of Republic Act 10054 or the Mandatory Helmet Act of 2009.
This came after Gov. Roel Degamo met with LTO and PNP officials to request for a one-month postponement on the law’s implementation due to public opinion against using the helmet. Dumaguete City has the most number of motorcycle users in the country and for many years motorcycles have been one of the most preferred mode of transport by people here.
Open house
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — In celebration of its 61st anniversary, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Eastern Visayas is inviting the public to its trade fair and photo exhibit which is now ongoing until January 27.
Anchored on the theme ““DSWD @ 61: Tuloy-tuloy sa Kaunlaran,” said trade fair and photo exhibit opened last Jan. 24 with products of ten groups of beneficiaries of the Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K) livelihood program showcased. The beneficiaries come from Palo, Abuyog, Alang-alang, all of Leyte; Ormoc City; Calbiga and Basey in Samar; Balangkayan and Guiuan in Eastern Samar; and Allen in Northern Samar.
Mass wedding
CEBU CITY — Some 300 couples will be wed in a free civil wedding ceremony to be dubbed as “Kasalang Bayan I do, I do, I do.” To be sponsored by the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag–IBIG Fund) Cebu North and South Branch, Vice-President Jejomar Binay will act as principal sponsor.”
A free reception will be held after the wedding, with each couple bringing three guests each. The couples will also be given free wedding rings and flowers for the bride and take part in a lottery for a foreclosed property to be raffled off. The mass wedding is open to all Pag-IBIG members with complete documents for the civil rites on February 14. (Phoebe Jen Indino)
