ILOILO CITY, Iloilo, Philippines (PIA ) — A half-day Career Summit will gather graduating college students from various colleges and universities here on February 7, 2012 at the Central Philippine University.

Organized by the Iloilo City government’s Public Employment Service Office along with Jobstreet.com, the event aims to help graduating college students in landing a job.

The event will also give the PESO a chance to collect and gather information on graduating students for their data bank. Speakers from the Department of Labor and Employment and Jobstreet.Com will discuss relevant information on the labor market and employment.

DENR donation

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Region 7 (DENR-7) will donate confiscated forest products without court cases to the Department of Education (DepEd7).

With an estimated value of P613,944.24, A total of 36,593.76 board feet of mahogany, gmelina, bagalunga, makaasim, molave, narra, teak, sangilo and acacia lumber pieces worth an estimated P613,944 were found to be free from all liens and encumbrances with no cases filed in court, according to the DENR.

Most of these forest products were seized due to lack of necessary documents and requirements during transport, DENR-7 regional director Maximo Dichoso said.

Livelihood aid

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Department of Labor and Employment (DoOLE) in this province released some P500,000 recently to the Lipayo Fishermen Association in Dauin town as livelihood assistance.

DOLE-Negros Oriental Officer-in-Charge Vivencio Lagahid said the latest beneficiary under the integrated livelihood program is a group of 38 fishermen whose main livelihood is taking passenger-tourists in small boats to Apo Island, among the top best diving sites and tourist destinations in the world located off the coasts of Dauin and Zamboanguita in Negros Oriental.

YORP registration

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The National Youth Commission (NYC) has reiterated its call for youth and youth-serving organizations in the country to register with the NYC’s Youth Organizations Registration Program (YORP). NYC Visayas Area Office commissioner Erwin Chua Andaya, who heads the YORP said the program is the NYC’s mechanism to establish a youth network in the country.

 All youth organizations, whether national, community based, school-based, religious, out-of-school youth organizations, young professionals and youths with special needs, among others, may register, Andaya added. To register, the youth organization must have at least 15 members ages 15 to 30.
