Site picked for bombs’ detonation
TOLEDO CITY, Cebu, Philippines — After considering at least two areas for the disposal of vintage bombs recently found in Cebu City’s South Reclamation Properties (SRP), authorities finally considered this city’s Carmen Copper Corp. mining site for the detonation.
Members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command (Centcom) Friday tested the explosive that will be used to detonate the vintage bombs.
It can be recalled that some 25 vintage bombs from World War II were discovered by construction workers in SRP.
Cectcom spokesperson Lt.Col. Christopher Tampus bared that the mine site was recommended by the Department of Environment and National Resources-Mines and Geosciences Bureau.
The detonation is expected to take place at the Biga Pit inside the CCC formerly known as Atlas Mining Corporation.
Philip Zafra, chief of staff of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama disclosed that the area is safer compared to the other sites.
Authorities earlier considered the town of Carmen and Balamaban for the detonation.
