The Bureau of Immigration (BI) intelligence operatives have arrested five Indian nationals in Mindanao for overstaying.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the aliens were apprehended in Davao City last Feb. 4 by operatives from the BI Intelligence Division Mindanao Task Group (MTG) headed by Melody Gonzales.
The BI chief said he ordered immigration agents to mount the operation after receiving complaints from Davao City residents about Indians engaged in the usurious “5-6” lending racket.
Morente exhorted the public to report to the bureau the presence of illegal aliens in their neighborhoods.
It was learned that four of the Indians are overstaying while one is an illegal entrant with no record of arrival.
They were identified as Darshna Devi, Gurbhej Singh Toor, Lovepreet Singh Waring, Amarjit Singh Toor, and Sukhmander Singh.
BI intelligence division chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said the Indians were arrested at their residences in Barangay Cabantian, Buhangin, Davao City.
“They entered the country as tourists then they engaged in gainful activity without the appropriate permits and visa,” Manahan added.
