Harsher penalties will soon be imposed to illegal parking violators as members of the Metro Manila Council (MMC) agreed to increase fines on Friday.
During the MMC special executive meeting in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila mayors have agreed to make the fines higher to those who continue to park illegally due to their "hardheadedness."

Jose Arturo Garcia, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager, said if before those who get caught illegally parking without drivers were towed and only fined P500, they will "soon be penalized P2, 000 plus towing fee."
According to MMDA's special operation's head, Bong Nebrija, towing fees for vehicles are: light (P1, 500); medium (P2, 500); and heavy: (P4, 500).
Meanwhile, the attended vehicles will soon be fined P1, 000. MMDA said before it was only P200.
"Despite the efforts of MMDA to clear roads of obstructions, many of our countrymen are still hardheaded. This is why the MMC decided to make the fines higher to promote discipline," the general manager explained during a press conference.
But, Nebrija said, the prices of fines are still not final, and will still undergo public consultation."One thing is certain, the fines will go up."
Nebrija and his men conduct clearing operations to various parts of the metropolis, especially to alternate routes.
Garcia said that the efforts are somewhat in vain because many people still park illegally in spite of MMDA's intensified operations.
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, MMC traffic committee head, said it is time to increase the fines against some hardheaded motorists, citing the economic lost of the country due to the worsening traffic congestion.
