Palawan Media Has New Officers

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Philippines (PIA) — The Alyansa ng Palaweñong Mamamahayag, Inc. (Alliance of Palawan Journalists, Inc., APAMAI) voted its new president this weekend in its first election since its incorporation in 2009. Edgardo Javarez, program director of RGMA-Super Radyo DYSP was elected president by the local media who came in full force for the general assembly and election. Javarez succeeds Damian Lacasa, reporter of Radyo ng Bayan. The newly-elected Board of Directors to serve a two-year term are Jeffrey Quilog of UNTV/Go Palawan newspaper as Vice-President, Katherine Santos of Puerto Princesa Water District as Secretary, and Ludy Bello of RGMA-Super Radyo as Treasurer.

Abra Searches For CSC Awardees

BANGUED, Abra — In a bid to further encourage good governance and honest leadership, the Civil Service Commission (CSC)-Abra Field Office has launched recently the selection for nominations for the “Lingkod Bayan Awards and Dangal ng Bayan” awards in the province. CSC Provincial Director Perfecto Cardenas said the Council of Personnel Officers (CPO) of Abra is now actively participating in scouting for more nominees to the CSC’s annual honor awards program. Cardenas said the awards include the Lingkod Bayan Awards, and Dangal ng Bayan Awards, both for individual category, and the PAGASA Awards for group category. (Mar T. Supnad)

School Repairs

LAMUT, Ifugao (PIA) — The Undersecretary for Legal and Legislative Affairs of the Department of Education (DepEd) recently visited this province to monitor ongoing school building projects and the implementation of the Philippines’ Response to Indigenous People and Muslim Education (PRIME) program, of which Ifugao is a beneficiary. Usec. Alberto Muyot arrived here last week and had a meeting with the local government unit officials, Schools Division Superintendent Estela Carino and teachers. He then inspected the repair work and reconstruction of schools in Payaawn, Kiangan, Hingyon and Gohang.

Candaba Commits To Bird Protection

CANDABA, Pampanga — Wildlife protection has become a growing responsibility here not just of authorities but by local folk as the seasonal migration of birds serves as a tourist attraction for this municipality in the last several years. In line with this, Superintendent Henry Flores, local police chief, warned the public against hunting and shooting down wild birds. On Monday, Flores filed charges of violation of Republic Act 9147 against one Herbert Jacobe of Bulacan who was caught with 12 Philippine wild ducks which he allegedly shot down. If found guilty, the suspect will face to four years imprisonment and pay a maximum fine of 300,000. (Franco G. Regala)

Kreans Thank Alert Local Cops

ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan — Police officers in this city were lauded Monday by Korean tourists for their help in recovering expensive lost items during their tour in the magnificent Hundred Islands National Park, here. Koreans Bae Gyeong Geun, 24, Jung Sang-ik, 26, and San-Min Lee, were appreciative of the prompt action of the police and the assistance of the people of Barangay Lucap that led to the recovery of their lost cameras, cellular phones and i-Pods last January 22. Supt. Rolie Saltat said his men later charged two men and a minor with robbery. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
