Cavite Acquires 13 Patrol Cars
TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite, Philippines — The Cavite provincial government will turn over 11 new patrol cars and two vans it acquired to the Police Provincial Office (PPO) in a simple ceremony set on February 13, a day before Valentine’s Day. The vehicles are part of the support program of Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr. for the 1,671-strong PPO, under Senior Superintendent John C. Bulalacao. Remulla and officials of the Provincial Council led by Vice Governor Recto M. Cantimbuhan provided for the vehicles in their bid to further improve peace and order by boosting police visibility, mobility and patrol operations. (Anthony Giron)
Sumulong Park Rises In Antipolo
ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — The city plaza known as Dimasalang Park, after the penname of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, has been stripped of the national hero’s bronze statue over the weekend as it is now renamed Sumulong Park in honor of local lawyer and senator of the Commonwealth era, Don Juan Marquez Sumulong. Rizal’s statue will be transferred to its former home at the city hall grounds. Meanwhile, vending stalls that showcase the city’s delicacies like “suman” and cashew nuts were taken off as staple features of the park located beside Cathedral of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage and the city hall, said Mayor Danilo Leyble. Doctors' Mission
ROXAS, Isabela — Thousands of residents of the 2nd District of Isabela are currently benefiting from the ongoing medical, surgical, and dental mission of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) of St. Louis, Foundation of Missouri, USA. Residents from the district’s 11 towns have been flocking to the Manuel E. Roxas District Hospital, here, to avail themselves of free medical treatment and medicines since Monday. Municipal Administrator Andy Vicente said the mission, done in cooperation with Mayor Benito Calderon and Dr. Osias A. Almiron, will run until Friday for the treatment of disorders such as modular goiter, gall stone, hernia, cyst, breast mass, mayoma, ovarian cyst, cataract extraction and other congenital diseases. Quezon Trains In Upland Farming
LUCENA CITY, Quezon — The Province Agriculture Office (PAO) is now promoting upland farming in rice production management by conducting training for farm workers this city, it was learned Tuesday. PAO Officer Cristina Lucila said that the training primarily for the agriculture extension workers, municipal agriculturists and farmer leaders coming from 39 towns in the province. The farm workers were taught and updated on upland rice system, varieties, nutrient management, pest and disease management, seed health, weeds and rodents management, technology transfer system and conversational of traditional varieties (internal and external situation). Pelayo Urges Respect For Birds
CANDABA, Pampanga — Mayor Jerry Pelayo enjoined all his constituents as well as visitors of this town to honor and respect the inherent rights of birds as they serve as an inspiration and tourist attraction here. “Here in Candaba, birds are treated like children. We spend so much to nurture and protect them so they are not to be just shot,” said Pelayo. In the same breath, Pelayo warned hunters and gun owners to refrain from attacking birds and treat them with respect or face the consequences under the law. (Franco G. Regala)
