MANILA, Philippines — A Catholic prelate Wednesday urged pro-life advocates not to be complacent amid the report that the Reproductive Health (RH) bill will not be included in the list of priority measures in the House of Representatives.

“Bagamat magandang balita yan sa ating mga Katoliko dahil alam naman natin na tutol tayo sa RH bill ay hindi pa rin tayo dapat pakasiguro!” Tagbilaran Bishop Leonardo Medroso said in an interview over Church-run Radyo Veritas Wednesday.

He said people should remain vigilant, saying the possibility of the passage of the measure being fast-tracked is always there.

“Dapat pa rin tayong maging vigilant kasi baka trabahuin nila yan ng pailalim,” said Medroso.

“Hindi nga nila prayoridad ang RH bill pero baka isisingit pa rin nila ito,” he added.

The head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Episcopal Commission on Canon Law also issued the same appeal to pro-life lawmakers.

“Sana ang ating mga pro-life congressman ay maging mapagmatyag lagi because the teaching of the world is always very subtle into the current thinking of our people that would little by little destroy our morality,” Medroso said.

It was earlier reported that the RH bill and the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill were left out of the House of Representative’s list of the priority measures for the next two months.

A letter from Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. listed more than 40 proposed legislations as the House’s priorities to be approved on second reading in the next two months.

The list did not include the RH bill and the FOI bill.
