Capiz Immunization

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) — Over 1,000 indigent senior citizens in Capiz will avail of free immunization from the government. Information Officer Joeffry Espiritu of the Capiz Provincial Health Office disclosed the 1,318 indigent senior citizens identified under the National Household Targeting System (NHTS) will start receiving their pneumococcal and influenza immunization starting this February.

The medicines, courtesy of the Department of Health (DoH), are already available. Immunization of target beneficiaries will be in coordination with various local government units, particularly the health and social welfare and development offices and Office of the Senior Citizens Affair.

Smoke-Free EVRAA

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, (PIA) — The Maasin City Schools Division of the Department of Education is making an appeal for delegates to the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) regional sports competition to observe Maasin City’s no-smoking policy.

“This will be the first smoke-free EVRAA as the regional sports competition hosted by the Maasin city government is adhering to the city’s non-smoking policy,” said assistant superintendent Schools Division (ASDS) Genis Murallos.

Employment Gains

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — Iloilo’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO), adjudged 2011’s Best Regional PESO Awardee, was able to secure jobs for over 700 jobseekers in job fairs it conducted last year.

PESO-Iloilo Manager Francisco Heler, Jr. said the jobs fairs they held in April and December 2011 generated some 5,740 job opportunities.

Local vacancies totaled 2,158 while those overseas numbered 3,582 from a total of 93 participating agencies. Some 754 of a total of 1,643 applicants who registered were able to find jobs, he said.

Dumaguete 4Ps

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Government’s poverty alleviation Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program, implemented through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) officially rolled out in Dumaguete City last Jan. 27, 2012 with 1,326 potential beneficiaries in 26 barangays in Dumaguete City.

An orientation was conducted by the DSWD for members of the program’s city advisory committee and city action team. Local social workers, midwives, city health personnel, school principals, barangay officials and staff from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) participated.

Validation Census

CEBU CITY, Cebu — The National Housing Authority (NHA), along with Cebu province will conduce a series of validation census to correct erroneous entries by four barangays here: Busay, Capitol Site, Camputhaw, and Kalunasan. Barangay residents will be given a chance to correct misspelled names or add other necessary information.

Those interested to avail of the free census validation service are required to bring two valid IDs. The activity started in Busay Wednesday and will continue until Thursday. (Phoebe Jen Indino)
