MANILA, Philippines — London Paralympics hopefuls Ernie Gawilan of Davao City and Ma. Josephine Bea Riza Roble struck again to emerge as multi-gold swimming winners in the 1st PSC-Philspada National Games Sunday at the Marikina Sports Park in Marikina City.

Gawilan, born without two feet, bagged his fourth gold medal in the men's 100 freestyle with a clocking of one minute and 11 seconds Sunday.

Roble, competing under the classification of dwarfism and orthopedically handicapped, won golds in the 100 freestyle (2:02.06), 200m freestyle (4:10.25), 50m butterfly (2:01.43) and 50m backstroke (1:26.32).

La Salle Mows Down U.P.

La Salle easily dispatched University of the Philippines, 25-10, 25-8, 25-18, on Saturday to move two wins shy of sweeping the double elimination round in the 74th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The victory was the 12th straight for the Taft-based squad while the Lady Maroons fell to 0-12. In the other game, Shiela Marie Pineda and Pau Soriano steered Adamson to a 25-11, 25-22, 27-25 win over University of the East. – Jonas Terrado

Yakult 10-Miller

The 23rd Annual staging of the Yakult 10 Miler, the second longest running event in the country, will be held on March 4 at the Cultural Center Complex in Pasay City. Set to start at 5:30 a.m., the event is expected to attract 3,000 runners including some of the country’s national athletes.

Akira Onose, Yakult Phils., Inc. Executive Vice President and Michael Ong, Manager sales and planning department, jointly announced at the contract signing with race organizer Rudy Biscocho, that this year’s Yakult 10 Miler will be timed by MyLaps Bibtag System. Entry fee is P450.

Adamson Awards

Adamson University pays tribute to the men and women who brought honors to the school’s and to the country’ in a fitting ceremony Monday.

Ten individuals led by sports legends Paeng Nepomuceno, Hector Calma and Filomeno Codinera, will be enshrined to the Athletes Hall of Fame in the 2 p.m. ceremony at the Adamson Theater.

The awards ceremony is part of the university’s 80th anniversary which will be celebrated in the next six months. Also to be honored are players Kenneth Duremdes, Marlou Aquino, Eddie Laure, Gherome Ejercito and Emelia Vega.

Vea, Aguilar Duo Top Kartfest

Roberto Vea and LA Aguilar of Team Speed Monsters showed superb racing skills in clinching the championship of the recent Clock and Counter Race held at the City Kart Racing course in Makati City. The Baby Steps squad placed second while the Knuckleheads team was third.
