PNP Day

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) under the leadership of Edgardo T. Ladao, police regional director, celebrated Monday its 21st Philippine National Police (PNP) Day Anniversary.

The activities started with a Holy Mass followed by the Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the PRO 3 Heroes monument and the traditional Monday Flag Raising Ceremony hosted by the Regional Internal Affairs Service 3 with Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Region 3 Director Teofilo Inocencio as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.

One of the highlights of the event is the signing of manifesto between the PNP and the Department of Agrarian Reform in support of the National Greening Program of President Aquino wherein each PNP personnel is asked to plant six trees per month or 72 trees for one year starting February 2012 . Vendors' Relocation

ANTIPOLO CITY — The vendors of native delicacies such as glutinous rice wrapped in buli leaves or ‘suman’ and cashew nuts or ‘kasoy’ have agreed to the plans of the city government to relocate their stalls from the Sumulong Park to their old location beside the cathedral here.

This came as the members of the Pasalubong Center Vendors Association (PCVA) composed of dozens of legitimate vendors of the city’s famous delicacies like suman, kasoy and mangoes have agreed to vacate the Sumulong Park, formerly Dimasalang Park, for good, to give way for the city government’s renovation plan for the city’s park that has been named after Don Juan Marquez Sumulong, the city’s most prominent historical figure who happened to be President Benigno Aquino III’s greatgrandfather. Baguio Drive

BAGUIO CITY — Mayor Mauricio Domogan has warned illegal street vendors selling along congested streets and pedestrian pathways to cooperate and stop illegal vending activities.

Domogan said he has instructed the police to conduct a dialogue with peddlers to educate them about city rules on vending while warning unlicensed sellers that their goods will be confiscated once they sell in prohibited areas.

The Anti-Peddling Task Force has launched a saturation drive to rid the city of illegal vendors, targeting areas with high concentration of illegal vending such as the Lakandula area.

Good Housekeeping

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) — An executive of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) here has expressed optimism on the improving performance of local government units (LGUs) in the province.

“We hope that other LGUs will be at par with their counterparts who have shown remarkable performance on local governance,” said lawyer Odilon Pasaraba, DILG provincial director.

Pasaraba said he is glad that LGUs, especially those located in urban areas, are now complying with the local governance standards set by the DILG.

School Debate

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna (PIA) — In celebration of its ninth anniversary, The Parliament: UPLB Debate Society hosted this year’s Southern Luzon Inter-High School Debate Encounter (SLIDE UP) at NCAS Bldg., University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) last Feb. 4.

Five schools — namely Quezon National High School, Our Lady of Lourdes Academy (Quezon), Holy Rosary College (Laguna), Calamba Bayside National High School (Laguna), and Little Shepherd Business and Science high School (Laguna) --participated in the competition.
