Manila city gov't to hire 'work-from-home' sewers to make face masks

The city government had announced that they will be hiring 100 sewers to make up to a million face masks that will be distributed to residents using sewing machines at Unibersidad de Manila (UDM). In his city address Thursday night (June 18), Domagoso said that those who will be hired to sew face masks remotely will be sent fabric and other necessary materials. "I hope you do a good quality, sana gandahan niyo 'yung kalidad ng production (I hope that you make the quality of the production good)," he said. Domagoso reiterated that not only will this project help residents, particularly displaced workers, earn a living, it is also aligned with the government's fight against coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) earlier said each sewer can earn up to P2,000 per day.
