PRO-6 Reminders

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo, Philippines (PIA6) — Promotion to the next higher rank entails more power and more responsibility, underlined Police Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr. of Police Regional Office-6 during the ceremonial pinning of rank insignias to 64 PRO-6 police officers representing the 1,137 promoted Police Commissioned and Police Non-Commissioned Officers in Western Visayas recently led by Police Supt. Kim P. Legada of the PRO-6 Operations and Plans Division.

Police non-commissioned officers promoted per province are as follows: Aklan-92; Antique-88; Bacolod City-103; Capiz-124; Guimaras-37; Iloilo City-93; Iloilo-199; Negros Occidental-184; Regional Headquarters-61; Regional Public Safety Battalion-7; and 58 from the PNP National support Units.

Capiz Undamaged

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA6) — Capiz seems to have been left unscathed by the recent strong earthquake that struck parts of Visayas, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC)- Capiz in its ongoing post earthquake monitoring in the province.

Capiz was among the areas jolted by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck noontime last Monday Phivolcs-Capiz reported an intensity 5 quake in Roxas City and some towns here “Our earthquake drills helped our residents who experienced the tremor,” said Phivolcs-Capiz head Ramil Atando.

Crisis Crop

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, (PIA) — They are huge, they are wild, and they are called “crisis crops” and they were the stars at Bohol’s recent 12th Ubi Festival.

The annual festival sponsored by the Office of the Provincial Agriculture showcases ubi (yam) varieties which, according to assistant provincial agriculturist Larry Pamugas is considered a "crisis crop" because it thrives even in such harsh conditions as long drought periods.

The recent festival featured Bohol’s 13 best yam varieties including the famous purple yam, and other so-called “crisis” crops and popular rice substitutes like “bot,” “kot” and “lima-lima.”

Adoption Consciousness

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, (PIA) — Centered on the theme “Isulong Legal na Pag-aampon!” this year’s observance of “Adoption Consciousness Week” led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 8 through its Regional Director Leticia Diokno is now ongoing.

Activities include a massive information campaign and advocacy activities to raise awareness regarding legal adoption in the region. On Wednesday, a DSWD-spearheaded walk began 8 a.m. from the Tacloban City Convention Center and ended at the Tacloban Rizal Park.

Lightbringers Shine

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) — Limpiado Memorial Foundation, Inc. students, known here as the Lightbringer Learning Center, showed their mastery in archery and emerged overall champion in the secondary division of the recent Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA), an annual regional sporting event joined by 10 athletic delegations from various school divisions of the Department of Education in Region 8.

The EVRAA meet took place last Jan. 29 to Feb. 4, 2012 in Maasin City. The Lightbringer students who brought gold for Biliran in archery are Nicjim Oliver, Dandy Jake Limpiado, Justine Sabornido, Debbie Bianca Ayade, Rishille Montes and Janah Santolorin.
