Weight No Problem, Money Is
MANILA, Philippines — Money carries more weight than weight itself.
Tim Bradley doesn't see any problem moving up in weight against Manny Pacquiao on June 9 in Las Vegas.
But the contract has remained unsigned as Top Rank promoter Bob Arum tries to determine how much money Bradley deserves to get in the fight which will improve the challenger’s stature more than it will Pacquiao’s.
Pacquiao's camp announced on Tuesday that the fight is a done deal, but Bradley's manager Cameron Dunkin told the Bulletin that a written agreement has yet to be reached. Pacquiao adviser Mike Koncz said the fight is on and that it will take place at the 18,000-capacity MGM Grand.
But money-wise, it’s not yet a done deal.
“As always, that's a big concern,” said Dunkin, referring to the money that will be offered to them for agreeing to be Pacquiao's dancing partner.
Dunkin said Bradley won't object to fighting Pacquiao at the welterweight limit of 147 lbs, citing that even though the 28-year-old California native campaigns at the 140 lbs division (super-lightweight), seeing action at welter is not alien to him, having fought there quite a few times. What is preventing Arum to formally make the announcement is the fact that he hasn't actually been able to dot the Is and cross the Ts with Bradley's camp.
Bradley, undefeated in 28 fights (with 12 knockouts), hasn't earned more than $1.1 million from a fight, but he expects to earn much more in a Pacquiao bout considering the Filipino’s global standing.
Pacquiao should get another $20 million plus payday but since Bradley is no Cotto or no Marquez and definitely not a Mayweather, Arum maybe forgiven for being unable to quickly determine how much he is worth.
