De Venecia Son Turns Theater Producer

MANILA, Philippines — TV’s erstwhile “Billy Bilyonaryo” has grown up.
Today, former child actor Toff (Christopher) de Venecia, son of five-time Speaker of the House of Representatives Jose de Venecia and Rep. “Manay” Gina, is up and about, not as a politician but as a thespian. In fact, two of his productions will be exhibited today, Feb. 11, at exactly the same time.
MANILA, Philippines — The first is 9 Works Theatrical’s adaptation of the Tony award-winning musical “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown,” starring Franco Laurel, Tonipet Gaba, The Company’s Sweet Plantado-Tiongson, Robbie Guevara, Carla Guevara-Laforteza and Lorenz Martinez. This production, based on the popular comic strip “Peanuts,” will run from Feb. 11 to March 3 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza along Ayala Ave. in Makati City.
Toff, aside from being 9 Works’ Marketing and PR director, is also playing the role of Linus, Charlie Brown’s blanket-toting best friend, in certain performances.
Also later at 8 p.m., Toff is directing the concert “Company Call: BLUEREP at 20” at the Henry Lee Irwin Theater of the Ateneo de Manila University. It’s a Broadway concert to celebrate 20 years of Ateneo’s Blue Repertory. Toff has also appeared in Rep’s “Mulan Jr.,” “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” and “Aladdin Jr.”
Playing the role of Charlie Brown is 9 Works Theatrical’s artistic director Robbie Guevara who was recently seen onstage as Uncle Max in “The Sound of Music.”
Presented in cooperation with The Rockwell Club and Make Up For Ever and its media partners: Manila Bulletin, Sense & Style, Philippine Star, Business World, HerWord.Com. and Focus Media Audiovisuals, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” is directed by veteran stage actor Michael Williams. Friday shows at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3:30 p.m. For tickets and other inquiries, e-mail info@9workstheatrical.com.
