Ex-QC Solon's 'Boyfriend' Slain
MANILA, Philippines — The alleged boyfriend of a former congresswoman was shot to death inside her house in Quezon City Friday night.
Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, chief of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU), said Noel Orate, 55, the alleged boyfriend of former Quezon City Rep. Nanette Castelo Daza, was reportedly killed by Bulacan Board Member Allan Robes, 38, who surrendered to police after the shooting.
Marcelo said Orate died on the spot inside the Daza residence at 51 Maningning St., Barangay Teachers’ Village East.
The police official said Robes is married to Daza’s daughter, Quezon City Councilor Jessica.
Marcelo said investigators remain clueless on what happened that night since the Daza family has decided to keep silent about the incident. “They immediately invoked their constitutional right to remain silent,” probers said.
But sources say Robes acted in self-defense.
The source said Orate, who was reportedly under the influence of liquor, arrived at the Daza residence Friday night armed with a gun.
This eventually led to an argument between Daza and Orate.
Since Orate was armed, Robes tried to intervene and stop the quarrel.
Shortly after, Robes allegedly shot Orate in self-defense.
Senior Inspector Mario Manahan, chief of the QCPD’s District Tactical Operation Center (DTOC), said the former congresswoman called up Supt. Ronnie Montejo, QCPD Station 6 commander, at around 10:45 p.m. Friday and sought police assistance due to a commotion.
After getting a call from Montejo, Manahan then sent policemen from Police Station 9 to go to Daza’s residence.
In a joint affidavit of arrest, Senior Inspector Gloriano Mariano stated that he and Police Officer 2 Wenzel Nojor arrived at the Daza residence at around 11:10 p.m. and heard successive gunshots from inside the former congresswoman’s home.
Moments later, they saw the suspect come out of the gate holding his .380 caliber Keltec pistol.
Upon seeing the police officers, Robes threw his gun to the ground and raised his hands to surrender.
Mariano later saw the body of the victim lying on the ground with multiple bullet wounds in the chest.
Senior Police Officer 1 Joselito Gagaza said Orate, a drug firm district manager, wore only a sleeveless shirt, short pants, and slippers. The police officers took custody of Robes’s gun loaded with live ammunition and two deformed slugs found at the crime scene.
Beside the victim was a 9mm pistol with live ammunition. There was no sign the gun was fired. Orate reportedly owned the 9mm pistol.
