Kylie Returns As 'The Good Daughter'

MANILA, Philippines — She was last seen in “Blusang Itim” and now Kylie Padilla is stepping into the limelight anew as star of the new afternoon drama series “The Good Daughter,” which premieres today after “Kokak” on GMA Afternoon Prime.

Kylie recently broke off with Aljur Abrenica. “Sinabi ko ito kay Aljur (Abrenica, her rumored boyfriend), at okay naman sa kanya na mag-focus muna kami sa showbiz careers namin,” Kylie said.

In “The Good Daughter,” the 19-year-old plays Bea, a sweet yet assertive teenager who meets a turning point in her life when her mother dies and her father marries someone she disapproves of.

She is joined in the cast by Raymond Bagatsing, who plays her father and owner of a successful coffee shop business; Alicia Mayer as Sharon, Rico’s first love and Bea’s step-mother; and Glydel Mercado as Tina, Bea’s mother, who will suffer a painful death in the story.

Rocco Nacino, LJ Angelie Nicole Max Collins, Dion Ignacio, Ervic Vijandre and Ms. Luz Valdez complete the cast.

“The Good Daughter” is another creation by the GMA Drama Group.

It is conceptualized by GMA’s creative team which consists of Afternoon Prime head Roy Iglesias, creative consultant Des Garbes-Severino, who also came up with the concept for the show, headwriter Aloy Adlawan, writers Anna Aleta-Nadela, Glaiza Ramirez, and Gilbeys Sardea, brainstormers Paul Sta Ana, Delfin Ilao, and Jason Lim.

Valentine Shows To Choose From

Here are shows to choose from this Valentine season:

“A Lighthearted Valentine With The Company,” a trip down memory lane at the Grand Ballroom of The Bellevue Hotel. In The Company’s repertoire are beautiful songs such as “Everlasting Love,” “Now That I Have You,” “Muntik Na Kitang Minahal,” “Sana Nga (Ikaw Na),” and “Special Memory.” Tickets are available at the gate (P2,200 for premiere seats and P1,800 for deluxe seats, inclusive of one standard drink).

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and show starts at 8:30 p.m.

Per tradition, Club Socialista owner Jong Garcia offers a dinner buffet every Valentine’s Day. This year, the menu is Spanish cuisine. Club Socialista is located on Remedios St. Malate, Manila.

“Eat. Jazz. Love,” featuring Cara Manglapus and The Executives Unplugged, is what Acacia Hotel Manila offers on Valentine’s Day. Tickets are priced at P1,288 net per person inclusive of a four-course dinner and a glass of wine.

Cara Manglapus and The Executives Unplugged is the musical spin-off of the historic 15-piece jazz group, The Executive Big Band, founded by the late Sen. Raul Manglapus in 1957. Today, the senator’s son Francis Manglapus heads the 3rd generation group. Francis, an executive by day and musician by night, serves as manager and drummer/guitarist. Along with him are Cara Manglapus on vocals, Alejandro Rivera on violin and Belay Montes on piano. They will perform hit songs of Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, Louis Amstrong, Jason Mraz, The Corrs, The Beatles and Stevie Wonder.

Meanwhile, Verni Varga entertains on Valentine’s Day during Rico J. Puno’s birthday show at Resorts World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theater.

Duncan Ramos celebrates Valentine’s Day at the Music Museum with a special show dubbed “Session of Love.” Duncan is a Backroom talent like Ima Castro, who sings love songs in her special shows at Resorts World Manila every Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of February.

Unit Asia, a jazz band that includes Japanese as well as Malaysian and Thai musicians, will perform in a jazz concert today, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. at the Skydome at SM City North Edsa. Unit Asia features Japanese musicians Miyoshi Isao (guitar), Noritake Hiroyuki (drums), and Ippon Shigeki (bass); Malaysian pianist Tay Cher Siang; and Thai saxophonist Koh Mr. Saxman.

Unit Asia’s Southeast Asian Tour was coordinated y JFM and Planet Arts Co. Mallgoers will also have the opportunity to see Wagashi: Japanese Traditional Confectionery Lecture and Demonstration on Feb. 18 from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Atrium of The Podium.
