MANILA, Philippines — The unique theatrical show “Fuerza Bruta” makes its Manila debut Tuesday, February 14, at the Manila Hotel Tent City as the Historic Landmark Manila Hotel celebrates its centennial anniversary this year. The show will run until March 26, 2012,

Freely but tightly choreographed, with aerial, aquatic, dancing and acrobatic components, Fuerza Bruta is a theatrical experience that features a 45-foot clear bottom tilting pool, hung from the ceiling and only partly filled, building-size Mylar curtains, and a moving treadmill where the daring cast composed of 13 men and women strapped in harnesses run, fly, swim, and dive, hovering just above the audience which remains standing throughout the one-hour long show.

“The show breaks free from the confines of spoken language and theatrical conventions. There is no singing, no dialogues, and no cheesy costumes. Unlike the theater or Broadway show where the audience is just standing outside, watching it. Here, the audience is part of that celebration. The play is all about celebrations,” said Dique James, the show’s director.

“But more than that, the play is all about emotions. The show doesn’t tell a story, but it tells about emotions. We don’t want the audience to analyze, we want them to feel. The narrative of the show will be their personal journey,” he said.

From the Argentine creators of the long-running “De La Guarda,” Fuerza Bruta (which literally means brute force) is a non-stop collision of dynamic music, visceral emotion, and kinetic aerial imagery. “It is a completely non-verbal performance that uses dance, acrobatics, visual displays, and pumping beat that will rock the audience’s world as it floods their senses,” said James.

The cast includes Juan Martin Fernandez, Bruno Lopez Aragon, Gabriela Gomez, Jimena Abente Gaydou, Natalia Gomez Carillo, Debora Torres, Mariana Banfi, Laila Dipace, Ariel Freiria, and Luciano Correa. The music director is Gaby Kerpel.

“The Manila Hotel is one of the country’s centers for culture and the arts. We make it our commitment to always give our guests world-class performances that provide a captivating and memorable experience of stunning visuals and magnificent music,” says Manila Hotel senior vice president Gorgina Banaag.
