Duterte wows 'em with singing prowess at Arroyo's thanksgiving dinner

(ALBERT ALCAIN / PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) After paying tribute to Arroyo’s impressive 27-year public service, and confessing to killing people because he thought she liked it, the President treated the former leader and other guests to his rendition of favorite songs during the celebration. First on the President’s repertoire for the night was the popular Filipino love song “Ikaw” while renowned artist Jay Cayuca played the violin. Duterte, appearing in good spirits, dedicated the song to the former leader, who he regarded as a true living icon in Philippine politics, and "to all the beautiful women in this room." The guests, including Arroyo's family members, friends and other allies, applauded the President for his performance. After having dinner, the President resumed singing his heart out during the Manila Hotel gathering. Reading lyrics from a tablet device provided by his aide, he gave his take on the classic Visayan songs "Matud Nila and "Usahay, and the Julio Iglesias' hit "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" while seated. The President also sang “Wind Beneath My Wings” while Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez danced with his wife Tingog party list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez at the Maynila ballroom. The Romualdez couple reportedly organized the appreciation dinner for Arroyo. Even as the audience dwindled towards midnight, Duterte continued to channel his inner balladeer with more songs such as "You Raise Me Up," "MacArthur Park," "The Windmills of Your Mind" and "Send in the Clowns." Arroyo and other guests on the presidential table stayed glued to their seats as Duterte sang the night away. Duterte, known to enjoy singing in public engagements, wrapped up his performance at the Arroyo gathering before 1 a.m. and headed back to his Palace residence.
