DOLE allots P5.5-million emergency assistance for displaced Star City complex personnel

By Leslie Ann Aquino The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is making available P5.5 million in emergency employment assistance to about 500 workers who were displaced by a huge fire that razed the Star City Complex in Pasay City Wednesday morning. (MANILA BULLETIN) (MANILA BULLETIN) The labor department said the assistance, under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad) program, will be extended to the affected workers for two months. TUPAD is an emergency employment program for displaced workers, underemployed, and seasonal workers. The assistance is similar to that provided to employees of the gutted NCCC Mall in Davao City last year, those affected by the eruption of Mayon Volcano also in 2018, and the six-month closure of Boracay. Based on initial reports submitted by OIC Asst. Secretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay of the Bureau of Local Employment, and the findings of the Quick Response Team (QRT) of the DOLE National Capital Region (NCR), some 500 employees were left in a “no work, no pay” situation. "Most of the affected workers are said to perform in administrative works, while the displacement may run for six months," said DOLE in a statement.
